Importance of Comparing Multiple Car Insurance Quotes

Every insurer develops their own underwriting guidelines, their preferred clientele and adjust premiums accordingly. This is where competition comes in and although some companies may not want to compete for certain individuals who pose a high risk, others may view them as profitable. On the other side of the spectrum, those who pose low risks of filing a claim may have auto insurance companies jumping out of the woodworks and offering great deals to gain their business. Whatever the case may be, the only way for a consumer to find the insurer who is most willing to accept their risk at the best possible price is to obtain and compare as many quotes as possible before purchasing a policy. This makes for a competitive industry which is to the advantage of the consumer; there will always be the “cheapest” company out there and even though it may differ for each driver, it has to be found by the consumer.

Additionally, consumers must also come to understand that they may be entitled to certain benefits from various insurers when they become insured, mainly discounts. It is very important to address any applicable discount when obtaining the quotes of carriers to ensure that the best price for automobile coverage; many overlook the fact that state laws require that insurers provide a rate reduction for certain items and do not address them. For instance, the Maine Bureau of Insurance requires that insurers reduce premiums for policyholders 55 years of age or older who complete a motor vehicle accident prevention course. Many states mandate the same sort of laws for various discounts and individuals should be sure to take advantage of savings where ever possible. Regardless, obtaining quotes is the best chance that a person has of finding an affordable premium and the more a consumer obtains and compares from the more likely they will find the cheapest rate.
Auto Insurance Comparisons Done Right
Normally consumers will shop around and compare rates of insurers in order to find the best possible deal on car insurance. Unfortunately, many do not take the time to get quotes from the many companies that are able issue policies in their respective area and can easily overlook the company that can provide the cheapest premium. Yes, dependent on the particular state that a person resides in there can be well over fifty insurers that can offer coverage, but it may be well worth the effort if the consumer is able to locate a great deal.

Consumers must remember that over the course of their lifetimes they will spend thousands of dollars in automobile coverage and the average consumer will spend more than $1,000 in just one year; auto insurance comparisons are vital in locating the most affordable premiums and to make sure that hard earned money is not being wasted. As a matter of fact, studies done in certain states show that the price for the same policy can differ by 200% between insurers. Fortunately, with today’s technology, comparing rates can be done in minutes and with very little hassle.

Is it important to regularly compare auto insurance? Are you afraid to compare auto insurance quotes?

Many policyholders may have been with their insurer for a long time. Obviously people would feel extra comfortable with an insurer they have been dealing with and experience no problems. After all insurance is a promise to pay in case policyholder suffers losses. In this sense, promises of certain companies would be a lot valuable than others. As you buy car insurance coverage for peace of mind you really need to have full confidence in the insurer.

Another important point to make is that consumers are worried about insurers playing it nasty. Think about an insurer that chooses to invest heavily on lawyers instead of allocating money to pay out claims. Compare it with another that will not even bother to waste any money on investigating small claims. Instead of employing loss adjusters and claim handlers they would rather pay their clients faster. There is no question as to which insurer you would rather be with.

Normally, it would be a sensible advice to ignore slight rate differences if you are happy with an insurer. But we must accept that we are not living in typical conditions at the moment. Looking at statistics proves that pretty quickly as there are a few worrying signs. Unemployment is still going up and number of uninsured drivers is pushing for the records in some cities. Under these circumstances, the need to look for cheap car insurance companies is increasingly clear.

Why should you compare auto insurance quotes?

Comparing auto insurance quotes gives you really low auto insurance rates. You would save thousands of dollors over the year. Compare auto insurance quote here. Check out how much low the auto insurance rate is compared to what you are paying.

Although some people may still make decent amount of money, they are still cautious on their spending. After listening to economy news everyday this would not be surprising response from most consumers. Regardless of how much they trust their providers they would want to have a look at their alternatives. This does not necessarily suggest that they are looking to move to another company. A watchful consumer would want to know the prices on average and make a choice. Obviously, they can justify buying an expensive product based on the quality they attach to it.

Many people may in fact choose to go back to their insurer for one last time to see if they would lower their rates. This approach pays off in most cases because companies agree to lower the rates for good customers. However problematic drivers should not count on this happening much. They would struggle to find great rates from alternative providers and they would not see much of a fight from current insurer to keep the business. Drivers should understand that it is a valuable asset to have a clean driving history.

Good drivers should look for alternative rates on a regular basis. They may have the feeling that their car insurance company likes them. The truth is that they are mainly statistics for many companies. They will be valued as long as they are profitable to insure. So they should make the most of their good driving records and demand the best rates. Once you find a great deal from a top insurer you might find it much easier to switch. Otherwise, you could clearly tell your current insurer that you would leave them if the premium offer is not matched.

Remember that each insurance company is obligated to follow the practices and pay for your claim if there are no issues and hence the company would not matter. Sometimes new insurance comapnies have better customer service than the established since the new companies want to establish themselves.

Amica Insurance has the highest customer satisfaction rating in the 2011 j.d. powers U.S. National Auto insurance study will receive.  The study, which has set Amica twelve consecutive years at the helm of the customer service rankings, is to treat their customers as well as the benchmark for insurance companies.

The law takes a dim view of people trying to get away with paying less insurance than they should, or people making fraudulent claims.  Unfortunately, the sword doesn’t quite swing both ways when it comes to protecting consumers against greedy insurance companies.  While there are many laws to protect us, there are just as many ways to get around these using loopholes.

The only reason insurance companies manage to continue doing things like this is because we don’t know any better.  Educating yourself is the only sure way to protect yourself from being taken advantage of – because if you don’t know it’s happened, nobody else is going to pick up on it.

It is very important for you to compare auto insurance quotes and review car insurance to understand what the insurance policy covers. Remember that insurance companies are not evil but they would give you higher coverage or standard coverage unless you are specific about it, since they would be questioned on why it was different they would not be able to state the same, unless you have asked for a change.

Here are 7 evil insurance company tricks to keep an eye out for:

1)     Direct Debit and Interest

If you choose to pay off your insurance on a monthly basis instead of one stomach-churning lump sum, then you need to be sure to read the fine print.  In essence what you are doing is “borrowing” the money for insurance from your insurer, and then paying it back, on their terms.  It is not uncommon to see APRs of up to 30%, so if you have to pay your insurance this way, pay very close attention to this little number.

2)     Comparison Site Results and Deductibles

Insurance companies are so desperate to get their quotes to come out on top of a set of results at an insurance quote comparison site that they will hike the deductible up to ridiculous levels in the hopes that you just “won’t notice”.  Deductibles of up to $1,000 have been seen next to the best monthly premiums, so be sure that the deductible attached to your policy is one you can handle paying if you have to.

3)     Yearly Premium Increases

Every year you should get a letter from your insurer, telling you about their new rates.  These documents are ostensibly designed to make insurance more transparent, and to make sure your new premiums are competitive – but they seldom are.  There is a good chance that if you were to apply as a new customer, with your added year of no-claims bonus, you would get a better rate than the one offered to you.  Use an insurance quote comparison site to prove your insurance company wrong.

4)     They’ll Charge You Again in a Year

Somewhere at the bottom of your contract is a little piece of fine print that says “Don’t worry about remembering to pay us – we’ll automatically bill the same card next year”.  Uncheck it if it is an online form, or notify your insurance company that you don’t want them to do this. They’ll send you a note reminding you to pay, but if you were to go and get a new policy you might end up doubly-insured, which is a nightmare to sort out.

5)     They’ll Add Things You Don’t Want

If you suddenly see a large increase in your monthly premiums, or you get a renewal quote that is much higher than the one before, double check the fine print.  You might find that something like “collision cover” is added when it wasn’t there before – even though you didn’t expressly ask for it.

Insurance companies occasionally change the composition of their policies, and then allocate the ‘best fit’ one to you, without asking you if you want to renew on these terms.  It’s unethical, but not illegal as you did sign it before checking the fine print.

6)     They’ll Cover Things You Don’t Need

Just because an insurance company’s offer is “better” than its competitors doesn’t mean it suits you more.  If it offers $25,000 collision insurance, and your car is only worth $5,000, you don’t need it.  You can probably find a better policy that is more stripped down to meet your needs.  Insurance companies are experts at “upselling”, which is convincing you to pay for cover you don’t need, and tricking you into thinking you can’t change it.

7)     Don’t Believe Fad Insurance Policies

Recently there have been a lot of new insurance companies offering insurance to select groups, such as women or students.  Simply because you fit into an insurance company’s target market segment, doesn’t mean they necessarily offer you the best deal.  Do your homework and regular shopping around even if someone seems to have a policy created especially for you.

Compare auto insurance to find out: Nationwide vs USAA Auto Insurance?

Comparing auto insurance companies is a lot of work, but it has some great rewards. When you know some details about each of the companies from which you are considering purchasing your insurance, you are better equipped to make an informed decision and find the company which will best suit your needs. Looking at two large auto insurance companies, such as Nationwide and USAA, will help you determine how these companies compare in customer satisfaction and policy offerings to meet your individual needs.

Nationwide History

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company is one of the largest auto insurance companies in the United States, doing over $21 billion worth of business each year. The company is based in Columbus, Ohio, and employs over 36,000 people in several regional offices. Although Nationwide is a mutual company, meaning it is owned by the shareholders, the company also offers financial services through Nationwide Financial Services, which was a publicly traded corporation prior to 2009.

Nationwide began in 1925 as the Ohio Farm Mutual Insurance Company. The Farm Mutual companies were a growing entity in the rural South and Midwest, and Nationwide continued to grow and acquire smaller companies. By the 1970s, the company had built One Nationwide Plaza in downtown Columbus, the largest building in the city and a famous landmark.

USAA History

USAA, the United States Automobile Association, was formed in 1922 to serve America’s military personnel by providing affordable car insurance. USAA has always relied on a direct marketing form of advertising, including mailings, phone calls, and television commercials to make people aware of its products. The company is now a national insurer, and writes over $9 billion of coverage each year.

USAA’s products are only sold to members of the armed services, veterans, and their families. Because of this, the market for USAA’s products is, by definition, limited. The company has very good coverage among armed service members and veterans, however.

Nationwide Customer Service Ratings

Nationwide fared rather poorly in the J. D. Power and Associate’s 2011 annual customer satisfaction survey. Nationwide scored only two out of five stars, or “below average,” in overall customer satisfaction. The company scored three out of five stars, or “average,” in policy offerings, pricing, and billing and payment, and only two out of five stars in contacting the insurer. Nationwide scored only 767 points out of a possible 1,000 in the Customer Satisfaction Index, as well, placing it in 22nd place of the 33 companies surveyed.

Nationwide’s low customer satisfaction seems to spring primarily from customer dealings with the company’s representatives. As Nationwide is marketed through independent agents in most cities, this may be reflective of these agents rather than the company as a whole. However, the company’s low customer satisfaction ratings may still be cause for concern with a potential customer, even if the customer has a good local agent.

USAA Customer Satisfaction Ratings

When it comes to customer satisfaction, USAA has no close competition. Even though the company does not make its products available to a large market, it has managed to gain the very highest scores on J. D. Power and Associates customer satisfaction ratings for 2011.

USAA not only scored a solid five out of five stars in every category of the Power’s survey, but had an overall Customer Satisfaction Index score of 898, over 50 points higher than the number-one company in the survey. The only reason USAA was not named the number-one insurer was because the company is so limited in its customer base it cannot be considered as having the same presence as other insurers.

USAA’s customer satisfaction rating is obviously the highest in the industry, and its customers are uniformly impressed with the customer service, prices, and overall tenor of the company.

What auto insurance company should you choose – Nationwide or USAA?

If you are a member of the armed forces, a veteran, or a family member of one of these people, then USAA is obviously a great choice for your car insurance. Unfortunately, if there are no service members or veterans in your family, you cannot purchase this insurance and must look elsewhere.

Nationwide has a large national presence and a sound financial base. If your local agent is a good fit for you, Nationwide may be a company you want to consider for your automobile insurance. However, if you are concerned about customer satisfaction, you might want to consider other companies, as well. You can talk to your local independent agents for quotes from several companies, or you can do an internet search and get a quote from one of the online quote comparison websites.
